This inaugural Catch a Piece of Maine lobster season begins May 1st, 2008

This inaugural Catch a Piece of Maine lobster season begins May 1st, 2008 when the lobster traps are set into the cold waters of Maine. All 8 lobstermen of Catch a Piece of Maine have eagerly waited for the melting of snow and arrival of Spring. After a long winter that seemed to never end, we are all counting down the days until May 1st. We will be working together to hoist the traps onto each lobsterman’s boat from the dock of Hobson’s Pier in Portland, Maine. The competitive spirit is alive and well between the lobstermen as each harvester strives to catch the most lobsters from their assigned traps for their partnership owners. May tends to be riddled with Spring storms and catch is often slow as the water temperature remains in the low 40 degree range. As the water temperature rises, catch rates begin to increase. For all of our partners, we can’t wait to get your traps in the water. As new partners join our community, their traps will be set the day after purchasing. Spring fever is in the air!
